16-17 October 2014 · Congress Centre Düsseldorf · Düsseldorf, Germany

Dusseldorf at night (media harbour)

The 5th GStreamer Conference will again be co-located with the Embedded Linux Conference Europe (ELCE), LinuxCon Europe, and the Linux Plumbers Conference. The event will be held on Thursday and Friday 16-17 October 2014 at the Congress Centre Düsseldorf (CCD) in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Schedule

Click here for the conference schedule.

Details

The GStreamer Conference is a conference for developers, decision-makers, community members, industry partners, and anyone else interested in the GStreamer multimedia framework or Open Source and cross-platform multimedia.

Call for Papers

The call for papers is now closed and talk proposals can no longer be submitted. Lightning talks may still be proposed though.

Showcase or Lightning Talks

If you don't think you have enough material for a full talk, but perhaps just want to showcase something you're working on, or present a problem or challenge you are facing or have solved, and that you think might be interesting for others to hear about, why not submit a ca. 5-minute mini-talk for our lightning talk/showcase event?

Simply send a quick mail to gstreamer-conference@lists.freedesktop.org above to reserve your slot (subject to availability). Lightning Talk submissions are still accepted.

Social Event

There will be a social event for registered attendees on Thursday 16 October 2014 in the evening from 19.00-23.00h at the Hausbar, Bolkerstraße 14, 40213 Düsseldorf, in the Altstadt (Old Town) district, just around the corner of the U Heinrich-Heine Allee U-Bahn/Underground stop.

Food and Drink will be provided, including vegetarian options.

Please don't forget to bring your badge.

Who should join?

Anyone interested in open source cross-platform multimedia is encouraged to join us at the GStreamer Conference 2014. Whether you are a hobbyist or a student interested in the field of multimedia, or working for a company using or looking to use GStreamer in their products, this is the perfect event for you to network at and to learn more about the latest technological breakthroughs in and around GStreamer. The talks will target both developers and managers.

Registration

Registration is now open and will stay open until the conference.

Sign up for the GStreamer Conference here

There will be separate registration options for both professionals and for students and hobbyists:

Professional 250 USD (until 31 July)
Professional 350 USD (from 1 August)
Student/hobbyist 100 USD

The registration fee includes continental breakfast and lunch at the venue on both conference days.

For those uncertain about whether to register as a professional or hobbyist, the general rule is that if your company pays for you or sponsors you, you are a professional, and if you personally pay you are a student or hobbyist. If in doubt drop us a mail or just register as hobbyist. The important thing is that you'll make it to the conference!

Speakers who do a longer presentation will receive a discount code, so if you have submitted a talk or plan to submit a talk you may want to wait with registration until a decision has been made as to whether your proposal has been accepted.

Sponsors will receive a number of free registrations as part of the sponsorship package.

Co-hosted conferences

There are a few other events taking place alongside or just before the GStreamer Conference on October 16-17 this year, so if you are making your way to Düsseldorf you might want to consider combining the GStreamer Conference with some of the other events.

Embedded Linux Conference Europe (ELCE) October 13-15, 2014
Linux Plumbers Conference October 15-17, 2014
LinuxCon Europe October 13-15, 2014
CloudOpen Europe October 13-15, 2014
KVM Forum October 14-16, 2014

City

This year's conference will take place in Düsseldorf, the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and centre of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area.

Getting there

Düsseldorf airport (DUS) is the third largest airport in Germany with good regional and international connections. Frankfurt/Main Airport (FRA), Germany's primary international hub airport, is just 75-90 minutes away by direct train. Some carriers offer fly+rail through tickets to Düsseldorf central station (airport code QDU) via Frankfurt.

Places

The venue is a bit outside of town, but not too far away, and easily reachable by car, taxi and public transport (see below).

The Altstadt (Old Town) district in the centre is renowned for its bars, restaurants, shops, museums and galleries.

Venue

The conference will take place in rooms 15 and 16 of the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf, which is located in the south east corner of the 'Messe Düsseldorf' (i.e. the Düsseldorf fair/exhibition center) area, which itself is located a bit outside the city center but within easy reach of it. A taxi from the Altstadt should take ca. 10 minutes and cost around 12 EUR, a taxi to/from the airport should be roughly the same.

The venue is served directly by bus route 722 which zigzags from the central station (Hauptbahnhof = Düsseldorf Hbf) through parts of the city centre and terminates directly in front of the venue (every 12 mins or so). Bus route 896 connects directly to and from Düsseldorf Airport (every 15 mins between 8.00h-19.30h).

Underground/metro lines U78/U79 may often provide a faster and more frequent connection to/from the centre and also pass near the venue at stop "Messe Ost/Stockumer Kirchstr.", from which it is a 10-15 minute walk to the venue (ca. 1km, just over half a mile). Alternatively, there are a number of busses (722, 896, and others) which will take you to the venue from there.

Hotels

This is just a small selection of hotels which may or may not be suitable. Düsseldorf is an international business centre and tourist destination and as such has many hotels and hostels in all price categories. The below is merely a small selection, you can find more using the usual booking engines. 'Stadtmitte' (city centre) north west of the central station (Düsseldorf Hbf) towards the 'Altstadt' (old town) might be a convenient area to be in, as it's close to the bars and restaurants of the Altstadt and the U78/U79 metro that will take you to the venue or the centre also passes through there.

Hilton and Radisson Blue Scandinavia

The Linux Foundation has negotiated a discounted rate of €149 ($195) and €143 ($188) per night incl. taxes at the Hilton Düsseldorf and the Radisson Blue Scandinavia Düsseldorf. Both are located within easy reach (but not necessarily walking distance) of both the venue and the Altstadt and close to U78/U79 metro stops. GStreamer conference attendees may make use of these rates. Those looking for something more luxurious will find something suitable near the Königsallee ("Kö").

City Centre

These hotels are centrally located and at the time of writing had a reaonable number of rooms left, but there are many smaller hotels in the area which may be even better located or provide better value:

  • Motel One Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof
  • Mercure Hotel Düsseldorf City Centre
  • ibis Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof
  • Hotel Prinz Anton
  • Novum Business Hotel Madison Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof
Keep in mind that there will also be a breakfast buffet at the venue.
